Skype on slackware 13 x64

This is about running skype on slackware 13 [64 bit]. Skype can be downloaded from skype website. Next download the packages needed to have a multilib slackware, which enables execution of 32 bit binaries, more information on http://connie.slackware.com/~alien/multilib/ Pull all the binaries and install them. Also download following 32 bit slackware 13 packages from the same site as above or the 32 bit non converted from any slackware repository and use the convertpkg tool to create compatible packages:

Thats it, you can then run skype

:)

Make calls via WLAN or 3G

According to folks at SymbianOne, the new upcoming range of Nokia devices will have Skype installed to allow you to make calls over data streams. Of course as in general with Skype the users can make low cost calls to landlines or other cell phones. In addition the Skype application will use the phone address book and use the presence feature to exhibit online / offline status of contacts.

Network Operators are ready to frown though.

If the same or related feature is enabled on android based phones, they could be used as a walky talky. Bluetooth is too slow for streaming voice calls, and the reach too less.
